18-Year-Old Killed in Horrific Accident on Orange County Road

A morning crash on Route 17 in Orange County has sadly claimed the life of an 18-year-old man from Ossining, and the investigation into what caused the deadly collision is still underway.

According to the New York State Police, the crash happened on Monday, August 31, 2026, at approximately 6:55 a.m. Troopers from the Middletown and Greenville barracks responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on State Route 17 westbound near Exit 120 in the Town of Wallkill, NY.

Police said that a 2019 Ford was traveling westbound on Route 17 when a 2025 Mack truck was merging into the westbound lanes from the right shoulder. At some point, the Ford traveled from the left lane into the right lane and struck the back of the Mack truck. At this time, it's unclear why the Ford moved into the right lane.

Upon arrival, police made the tragic discovery that a passenger inside one of the vehicles had died. The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Kevin C. Zhagui-Morocho, of Ossining, NY. The driver of the Ford, 28-year-old Jorge A. Jarama-Barreto, also of Ossining, was injured in the crash. He was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Members of the State Police Troop F Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and Collision Reconstruction Unit also responded to the scene as part of the investigation. At this time, the investigation remains ongoing, and State Police are asking anyone who personally witnessed the crash to come forward. Route 17 remained closed for a while as first responders cleared the scene.
